Welcome to NURS 6521: Advanced Pharmacology!
Enhanced quality of life can be attributed to many factors. Consider, for example, that these factors are the result of improvements in health care delivery, approaches for evidenced-based practice in nursing and medicine, and continued research and development of pharmacotherapeutics. As an advanced practice nurse, you will be involved in the process of developing, administering, managing, and improving drug therapy plans for patients. This course is designed to support this role by developing your understanding of pharmacology and pharmacotherapeutics.
In this course, you explore concepts related to pharmacotherapeutics, including pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes in patients. You also examine drug therapy plans as well as the role of the advanced practice nurse when prescribing drugs. Additionally, you explore patient factors that may impact the selection of appropriate drug therapies, and you consider how to improve existing drug therapies to assist patients in the management of disorders to promote positive patient outcomes. An understanding of these concepts will be an essential component of your nursing practice, as it will be your responsibility as the advanced practice nurse to recommend appropriate treatment options for disorders.
