Step 2: Answer the discussion prompts below with explanation and detail.

  • Paragraph one: How do your IAT results align with your self-perception and conscious attitudes towards different groups or individuals? Discuss any discrepancies and consider the possible origins of these differences.
  • Paragraph two: In what ways might your implicit biases, as revealed by the IAT, impact your interactions and decision-making in your nursing practice? Reflect on specific instances where these biases could come into play and identify two strategies to mitigate their potential negative effects.
  • Paragraph three: How can you leverage the insights from the IAT to foster a more inclusive and equitable environment at your workplace? Discuss two practical steps that can contribute to reducing the impact of implicit biases on your behavior and decision-making.

SOLUTION:

Paragraph one:

Implicit or unconscious bias consists of the stereotypes and cultural ideas that affect our choices and actions. These biases develop in early childhood and evolve as we progress into adulthood (Veesart & Barron, 2020). The Implicit Association Test (IAT) measures implicit bias, and the results often reveal subconscious biases that may conflict with our conscious beliefs (Project Implicit, n.d.) For example, I scored a moderate automatic preference for light-skinned individuals despite consciously believing in equality. As a white person from a predominantly white community, my background has shaped my perspectives. Although I have friends from various backgrounds, most of my close friends are white. This can lead to automatic associations that do not align with my conscious views.  The IAT’s structure requires quick categorization of words and images, prompting instinctive responses rather than reflective ones. Personally, I find it challenging to remember directions immediately after receiving them, and I am not exceptionally skilled……………………KINDLY CLICK ON THE PURCHASE LINK BELOW TO ACCESS THE ENTIRE SLOUTION FOR $6 OR CONTACT US VIA WHATSAPP NUMBER +254721652000
