Ischemic Heart Disease

Ischemic heart disease (IHD), also known as coronary heart disease, poses a significant threat to global health, being one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity. This condition results from the narrowing of coronary arteries, which limits blood flow to the heart muscle and can cause symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, and heart attacks. Effective management of IHD requires a multifaceted approach that addresses the physical aspects of the disease and the psychological and social dimensions to improve overall patient outcomes. This paper presents a synthesis of evidence regarding IHD management, utilizing three selected articles: “Relationships Among Heart Rate Variability, Perceived Social Support, and Hopelessness in Adults With Ischemic Heart Disease” by Goodyke et al. (2024), “A qualitative study on men’s experiences of health after treatment for ischemic heart disease” by Elbrønd et al. (2022), and “The Effect of the Family-Centered Self-Care Program on the Health Literacy Level and Self-Efficacy of Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome During Discharge from Hospital” by Ghaemmaghami et al.
